Alicia Toner

“Seeing her live confirmed the energy and tension she brings to her songwriting, and why she’s become an East Coast A-lister.” –Bob Mersereau Top 100

singer-SONGWRITER

GENRE: AMERICANA

Alicia Toner is a singer and songwriter hailing from the East Coast of Canada. A remarkable sound that combines her folk roots with a pop/rock fusion sets her apart, but it is her earnest and heartfelt songwriting that captures the hearts of her fans, elevated by a "force of nature" voice.

Growing up in New Brunswick, Toner's musical influences came from her grandmother’s and uncle’s love of folk and country (John Prine, Jim Croce, Gordan Lightfoot, Dolly Parton).

BOOKING INQUIRY

At the same time, she studied classical violin and spent many years with the prestigious New Brunswick Youth Orchestra with whom she played Carnegie Hall. She continued on to study theatre in Toronto and enjoyed 10 years in a successful acting career including shows produced by Mirvish Productions and Soulpepper Theatre.

It was during a run of Once in Toronto that a castmate introduced Toner to her now producers and good pals, Stewart Cameron & Peter Fusco. She began recording with them and never looked back.

Alicia’s first solo release, “I Learned The Hard Way” (2017) earned her much critical acclaim and SOCAN Songwriter of the Year for her song “Back To Fine.” She was featured on CBC’s Q as a part of Measha Brueggergosman’s Block Party and had extensive radio play for her first single, “Waves”. Her latest album, “Joan” was released in June 2021 and it marks the arrival of an artist you must pay attention to.
